Consumers Expect Mobile Apps to Launch in Three Seconds or Less, says PacketZoom

Study Reveals That Forty-Four Percent of Users Abandon a Poor Performing App and Thirty-Two Percent Uninstall It Altogether

PacketZoom, the company re-defining mobile application performance via in-app mobile networking technology, announced today its consumer study results showing the importance of mobile app network performance and its effect on mobile app users.

66% of consumers reported that reliable mobile app performance is “very important”  – second only to mobile app security.

“Based on these findings it looks like mobile app performance is still a significant issue,” said Shlomi Gian, CEO of PacketZoom. “The study found a direct correlation between mobile app performance and the brand perception. Consumers express impatience and unforgiveness when it comes to poor performing mobile apps.”

Key Study Insights – The Effect of Mobile Network Performance on Mobile App Users:

  • The study included over 2,000 mobile app users in partnership with mobile ad platform Tapjoy.
  • Most users (67%) spend time on their mobile apps while at home using wifi networks, yet 86% of users reported some mobile app performance issues in the past six months.
  • When using a poor performing mobile app: 44% of users close the app, 34% are less likely to use the app again and 32% uninstall the app altogether.
  • 55% of users are likely to use a fast and reliable mobile app again; 33% are likely to use it longer (i.e., spend more time on the app) and 29% would prefer it over a competitiveapp .

The majority of users (71%) expect apps to load within three seconds and 63% abandon an app that takes more than five seconds to load.

In September, PacketZoom announced the launch of Mobile IQ, a free mobile analytics tool that enables app developers to analyze, troubleshoot and control app performance in real-time. Integrated with Mobile ExpresslaneTM as part of the PacketZoom platform, Mobile IQ makes PacketZoom the first company to offer a complete, end-to-end product suite for Mobile App Performance Management & Optimization (APMO). Offered as a free product, Mobile IQ will remain free of charge forever.
